Beaphar Gentle Leader Med Black
"The Beaphar Gentle Leader® is a unique and patented design that works by mimicking the natural muzzle grab, which more confident and higher-ranking dogs, and other canine species, perform in their pack. Dogs use the muzzle grab to communicate reassurance, reaffirm their bond and to deter unwanted behaviour.
The Beaphar Gentle Leader® is not just a ‘training aid’ but a life concept, that will help you and your dog to form a positive connection and bond; with you as their pack leader. It provides kind and effective leadership, and makes training at home quick, simple and fun for both you and your dog.
Once fitted correctly, your dog will learn the positive association of the action of the Beaphar Gentle Leader®, working with your dog’s natural instinct to stop them from pulling on the lead, running forward, lurching at other pets and people, and other unwanted behaviours on the lead.
Walking on a lead is a skill that needs to be learnt, and a dog's natural instinct is to pull against something that is applying restraint. The Beaphar Gentle Leader® helps to counter this in three ways:
- Gentle pressure is transferred to the back of the neck, naturally stimulating a relaxation response (similar to when a mother carries a puppy by the scruff of its neck).
- Gentle pressure is applied around the muzzle from the nose loop, communicating your reassuring control.
- It works like a halter rope – where the nose goes, the body will follow.
The Beaphar Gentle Leader® was designed by veterinary surgeon Professor Robert Anderson, Director of the Animal Behaviour Clinic at the University of Minnesota, USA and Ruth Foster, former President of the American National Association of Dog Obedience Instructors.
The Beaphar Gentle Leader® is easy-to-fit and adjust. Unless your dog is young and still growing, once correctly fitted on your dog, it is unlikely for there to be a need for it to be adjusted.
